J.J.! and S.D.G.!

At the beach.

J.J.! and S.D.G.!

I don’t like abbreviations, but here we are.

Today I am really encouraged to ask the Lord for help when beginning something and giving the glory to God when he has helped me to finish something. Or I should rather say again encouraged.

Why?

I am reading about the famous German composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

Before Johann Sebastian Bach wrote a piece of music, he wrote J.J.! on the empty page. That is short for Jesu Juva! Jesus help! At the end of the piece of music he wrote S.D.G.! That is short for Soli Deo Gloria! To God alone be the glory!

But let me also say that I don’t mind abbreviations, as long as I am told what they stand for. And I hope that you are also encouraged to begin every task with prayer and say “Jesus Help!” and also say “to God alone be the glory” when you have finished the particular task.

WHERE DID YOU LOSE YOUR HEART?

“ADVENTURE”

“ADVENTURE” and “I have lost my heart in so many places,” I am reading while looking into a shop window.

I was born in Germany and I am living now in New Zealand. I have travelled to some countries, but not very many.

Just before  Christmas 1966 I arrived in Thailand, where I worked as a missionary for thirteen years. Thailand is the country where I got married and where our  two children were born. I lived in two provinces in Thailand, in TAK and KAMPHENGPHET.

And I have not lost my heart in so many places, I have lost my heart in Thailand. Although my heart is in HEAVEN, I can honestly say that, otherwise I would not write this. And I did not go to Thailand as an adventurer, but to win lost souls for the Lord Jesus Christ.
