A MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION

It is my custom to read the devotional treasury by C. H. Spurgeon called MORNING AND EVENING. This morning I am reading again, “Why is it that some Christians, although they hear many sermons make such slow advances in the divine life?”

What is the answer? C. H. Spurgeon answers his own question: “Because they neglect their times of prayer, and do not thoughtfully meditate on God’s Word.”

Do I neglect my time of prayer and do I not thoughtfully meditate on God’s Word? That are the two questions I am asking myself. And why do I ask the two questions? Because I want to make progress in my spiritual life.

“If God gave us favors without constraining us to pray for them we  should never know how poor we are, but a true prayer is an inventory of wants, a catalog of necessities, a revelation of hidden poverty.” – C. H. Spurgeon
