“‘HAVE YOU NEVER READ?'”

I was actually going to read some other good book on this rainy morning in October, but I picked up again my Bible and continued reading where I left off this morning in my quiet time.

(Quiet Time: Daily Bible reading, Daily conversation with God, not only during the day, but at a time of quiet and being alone with the Lord.)

I found that at least twice in Matthew chapter 21  the Lord Jesus Christ asks the people the question, “‘Have you never read?'”

BIBLE

THE SCRIPTURES

THE FIRST TIME.

he asks the question in Matthew 21:16. (“‘Have you never read?'”)

Here he is referring to Psalm 8:2, where it says: “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”

THE SECOND TIME.

he asks the question in Matthew 21:42. (“‘Have you never read in the Scriptures?'”)

Here he is referring to Psalm 118:22,23, where it says: “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes.”

Just as the Lord Jesus Christ asked the people when he was on this earth, he is asking us today, “‘Have you never read in the Scriptures?'”

It is a blessing to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. (Matthew 6:33)

Books in my Library

I say it again, the best books in my library I picked up second-hand.

Another second-hand book

Another second-hand book

So far I have not read the book from cover to cover, but the table of contents tells me that the author starts with “Man’s Problem” and tells us about the “thing called sin”, before he comes to the second part “God’s Answer”, where he talks about what happened at the cross. The third part deals with “Man’s Response”.
