My Favourite Book of all Time!

In a kids’ magazine children are encouraged to tell about their favourite book of all time. They are also encouraged to tell about the book they are currently reading.

That reminds me of the books beside my chair I am currently reading.

LASS DEIN HEIL UNS SCHAUEN

It’s a devotional treasury in German, written by a youth pastor I have met personally, while living in Bottrop in Germany. He had his work in Essen, not far from Bottrop. But that was long ago.

I DARED TO CALL HIM FATHER

The book is written by Bilquis Sheikh. I found a copy of the book at the place where we were staying in Auckland not long ago and started reading the book there. I am reading now the copy we have in our own library. It is “The miraculous story of a Muslim woman with God.”

GOD’S ULTIMATE PURPOSE

An exposition of Ephesians one by D M Lloyd-Jones. What a teacher of the Word of God. I heard him preaching many years ago in London. I used to stay at the Headquarters of a Missionary Society and a candidate took me to hear him at Westminster Chapel, London.

UNTER GEIERN

It is one of the many books by Karl May in German. He is one of the best storytellers I know, and I doubt that he ever enrolled in a course for writers.

But there is still one more book I am currently reading and that is my favourite book of all time, the BIBLE!

My

My favourite book of all time, the BIBLE!

An Observation

“DOUBTLESS GOD COULD HAVE PROVIDED US WITH BETTER FUN THAN HARD WORK, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS. TO BE BORN POOR IS PROBABLY THE NEXT BEST THING.” –  Delightful observation by Sir J. M. Barrie

“When we are  burdened with troubles so pressing and so peculiar, that we cannot tell them to anyone but our God, we may be thankful for them; for we will learn more of our Lord then than at any other time.” – C H Spurgeon

“Simon Peter answered, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words (the message) of eternal life.

And we have learned to believe and trust; and [more,]  we have come to know [surely] that You are the Christ, the Anointed One, the Son of the living God.” – John 6:68,69 (The Amplified Bible)

“Empty boats float high, but heavily laden vessels are low in the water; merely professing Christians can boast, but true children of God cry for mercy upon their unprofitableness.” – C H Spurgeon
