ATTITUDE – Sermon Outline – NT – NLT

THE CROSS

THE CROSS

William James says,

“It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult undertaking which, more than anything else, will determine its successful outcome.”

In his letter to the holy people in Philippi the apostle Paul is telling them that they must have the same attitude that the Lord Jesus Christ had.

“Though he was God,

Philippians 2:6-11

Intr.:

he did not think of equality with God  as something to cling to.

A.   INSTEAD,

1.  he gave up his divine privileges;

2.  he took the humble position of a slave and

3.  was born as a human being.

4.  When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and

5.  died a criminal’s death on the cross.

B.   THEREFORE,

1.  God elevated him to the place of highest honor and

2.  gave him the name above all other names,

3. that at the name of JESUS every knee should bow,

a.  in heaven and

b.  on earth and

c   under the earth,

4. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

End: to the glory of God the Father.”

A hairdresser establishment on Commerce Street here in Kaitaia, in the Far North of New Zealand, has a blackboard outside the shop and on the board I read today:

“A bad attitude is like having a flat tyre …

It never gets you anywhere.”
