DO YOU WANT TO BE STRONG?

For a long time I have had the question on my mind: WHY DON’T YOU DO THE THINGS YOU KNOW ALREADY?

I ask also two more questions. Here they are: Why do I read more? Why do I hear more? The message for all of us is: Do the things you know already!

Read what the Lord Jesus Christ says in Luke 8:21. Those who hear the word of God and put it into practice he calls what? The answer is mother and brothers. In Matthew 7 we read about the wise and the foolish builders. We can be wise builders and we can be foolish builders. Wise builders hear the words of the Lord and  put them into practice. Foolish builders hear the words of the Lord and don’t put them into practice. Matthew 7:24-27. I don’t really want to be a foolish builder.

But there are not only the hearers. I have mentioned already the readers at the beginning.

But there are also the teachers. They are the ministers, who are standing before their congregations every Sunday. And there are the writers. ( I am writing now and I have written posts on my blog.)

The apostle Paul has something to say about the teachers. In his letter to the Romans he says in Romans 2:21 “you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself?”

Many, many years ago, I read in the Bible, the Word of the Living God,  the words: “…, in quietness …. is your strength,…” (Isaiah 30:15). Those words “in quietness is your strength” have been with me ever since. “IN QUIETNESS IS YOUR STRENGTH!” The word of the Lord is powerful. The word of God is not only like a fire, it is also like a hammer. Jeremiah 23:29, “Is not my word like a fire? saith the Lord.” Read also Jeremiah 20:9. The Bible is like a hammer. Jeremiah 23:28, “Is not MY Word…. saith the Lord……like a hammer that breaketh the rock?”

I believe yesterday I practiced the words “IN QUIETNESS IS YOUR STRENGTH” more than at other times in the past……. and it really worked. In quietness is your strength. Please read it once more: In quietness is your strength!

In my daily reading of the Bible from cover to cover I have come to the book of Proverbs and there are quite a number of verses that talk about our tongue. Let us read some of them. Here they are: Proverbs 10:19; Proverbs 21:23 “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.”

“….in quietness …… is your strenght,..” is part of Isaiah 30:15 as you have noticed by now.

Isaiah 30:15 is a really good sermon outline. Here it is:

“For I resolved to know nothing

while I was with you

except Jesus Christ and him

crucified.”

First Corinthians 2:2

Which person in your life means the most to you?

“When  we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or  cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.” – Henri Nouwen

“Are you really born again?”

“ARE YOU REALLY BORN AGAIN? Understanding true and false conversion,” is the title of a book written by Kent Philpott. The foreward of the book is by Earl Smith.

I am reading the book now with great interest.

“Another Hoon loses control……The message just isn’t getting through!”

(A hoon is somebody who is driving wrecklessly on the road. – Did I get that right?)

You can see the headline “Another hoon loses control….The message just isn’t getting through” including an image (Traffic accident) in the latest Age Concern Newsletter, September 2010.

Yes, I know about that also, that messages don’t get through. I handed a written message in at the local Age Concern Office some time ago and it did not get through….. so far.

The Bible, the Word of the Living God is also asking in Isaiah 53:1 “Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?” The Lord Jesus Christ did miraculous signs in the presence of the jews and they still would not believe in him. John12:38 In Romans 10:16 the apostle Paul says,”But not all the Israelites accepted the good news.”

“FOR THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS IS FOOLISHNESS TO THOSE WHO ARE PERISHING, BUT  TO US WHO ARE BEING SAVED IT IS THE POWER OF GOD.”

First Corinthians 1:18

In Proverbs 15:30 we read “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and Good News gives health to the bones.”

Please believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, accept the GOOD NEWS! The message of the cross wants to get through to you, to your heart.

The message of the cross got through to my heart, because the Bible was always in our house and my mother prayed for me.

First Peter 1:1 “To God’s elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus,…”

Grandma’s Visit

“O, I sure am glad to see you,” the little boy said to his grandmother (on his mother’s side). “Now Daddy will do the trick he’s been promising us.”

The grandmother was curious. “What trick is that?” she asked. “He told Mommy that he’d climb up the walls if you came to visit,” answered the boy. – Age Concern Newsletter, September 2010
