OUR COMMUNITY
I looked into the letter box before going for my walk. I fished out a small card which said: “Vote for ( the name) for Councillor and Health Board. Under the picture of the man it said: Promoting a caring, healthy and safer community.
We surely know what we want and what we need.
But who are the people who care, who make a community healthy and safe?

GERMAN TOURISTS
There are quite a number of German Tourists roaming around in Northland. Met up with two today. Must take some tracts in the German language with me from now on when going out.

Sometimes we are concerned-worried- about things, sometimes small things, that are happening to us.
This morning two stories about people came to my mind-stories I read only yesterday:
— A seventeen year old born again Christian girl died suddenly. She did some Bible Lessons by correspondence. “After she passed away the July Lessons were found half completed, and all correct.” She was a witness for the Lord.
— A 22 year old young Christian man was born without limbs and lives a life without limbs. His picture is also in the magazine. He is going to write books. His first is called : ” No Arms, No Legs, No Worries.” Philippians 4:6
I am still thinking…….the small thing that are…….!
Saw a camper van the other day and the following was written on it: “WORRI ?“

DOMINATOR
Unfortunately I have only a little Suzuki scooter.
But today I saw a HONDA advertisement in one of the car shop windows here in Kaitaia. It is an advertisement which appeals to our nature.
It starts with: TO DOMINATE……….
ANY TRACK, ANY FEAR, ANY OPPONENT
It is in fact a picture with 4 motorcycle guys on it! It also says HONDA :The power of dreams.
The advertisement talks about the domination of ANY opponent.
Saw also another advertisement that fits in here : DOMINATOR, The world’s most advanced Garage Door Systems.———————————
We want to dominate . We want to be independent. From the garden of Eden until now we are questioning (challenging) GOD’S DOMINION .
We want to sit on our own little throne and say: I AM WHO I AM!
But only the Lord is selfexistent. We are dependent beings. But it is so difficult to dethrone ourselves. Exodus 3:13-15

It happened in New Lynn (Auckland)
It happened in the library in New Lynn. In one corner a lady who looked chinese to me was talking to a Sikh- they are dressed in a certain way. From what I heard she wanted to know exactly the difference between her religion and his religion.
I mentioned that at home in the kitchen to one of our relatives. The answer was,” The library is hardly the place to talk about things like that.”
I was surprised about the answer and said so!

OUR WALK ALONG COMMERCE STREET IN KAITAIA
It was at the Union Church on Commerce Street when I heard footsteps behind me. Looking behind me a bit I mentioned to the young man–I had never met before–that Kaitaia is bathed in sunshine today. He talked about the game of rugby he had just played.
Next I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to ask him about his religion. To make a long story short again Josh– that is his name–knows the Lord, is a witness for the Lord, helps other people and his folks are going the the Advance Ministries Church here in Kaitaia. He himself lives in Auckland, is learning to be a carpenter, going back to Auckland tomorrow. But this evening he will be at the service of Advance Ministries here in Kaitaia in the Community Centre. At 6 pm!
Our walk began at the Union Church as mentioned before and ended at the museum. That was the first time we met-but I hope to see him again! Matthew 10:32,33

In our lounge we have a beautiful cross stitch hanging on the wall made by my daughter. It shows the cross where the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins and the following writing:
It wasn’t nails that held him to the cross, but His love for you and me. First Corinthians 1:18
13.09.07 Suicide
We stopped in Wangarei coming back from Auckland and I looked at a paper and there was something written about people committing suicide. At home now I opened a different paper and there is an article in the Northern News about ” Developing skills to help prevent suicide”.
It says that nearly 500 New Zealanders commit suicide each year. More than dying on the road each year.
Would like to go to the workshop, but the cost is $ 395 per person.
I remember reading the same 50 years ago in a paper in Germany. ( I mean comparing the people who commit suicide with those who die on the road.) It was said that people commit suicide because they have it too good. In German: Wohlstandsselbstmorde.
Let me know if you think differently concerning this matter.
“MADE BY GOD- PACKED BY CHARLIE’S”

PERSONAL EVANGELISM
I am writing this in Auckland and last Sunday I attended the Bible Chapel in New Lynn. Inspired by the sermon a lady got up and told the following story at the end of the sermon, “I met up with a man at the Foodtown checkout who asked ‘WHO IS GOD?’ after he had read something on a bottle of Charlie’s honest squeezed Orange Juice.” To make a long story short, the Lord made her meet up with that same man three times in a row and only the third time she had the courage to say to the stranger what the Lord wanted her to say to him.
I AM NOW MORE THAN EVER CONVINCED THAT WE HAVE TO TRAIN UP PEOPLE IN PERSONAL EVANGELISM!
I myself went straight to Foodtown after the service to find out about Charlie’s honest squeezed Orange Juice. I did find the bottles, but could not find the writing on them “Made by God- Packed by Charlie’s”. The reason was probably that I did not have my glasses on me.
I asked a nearby man who is a worker there at Foodtown. But his comment was,” God has more important things to do than to make orange juice for us!”
But the next day I found the one litre bottle with the following writing on it “Made by God–Packed by Charlie’s”!

Tomato plants
We have been away for almost a week. Before we went to Auckland my wife positioned young tomato plants near the window. When we came back today all the plants were bent leaning towards the light coming through the window.
I found that very interesting because it says in the Bible, “….but men loved darkness instead of light because…..” John 3:19
We can learn even from the small tomato plants.
Our quiet Time
Some of you may know that we have been in Thailand for thirteen years. I like thai food and as there are a good number of Thai restaurants in Auckland I had a meal in one of them on our recent trip to the city.
When I watched the thai lady there putting food on a shelf and praying in front of the shelf I was reminded of Thailand.
Once I stayed in a hotel in the northeast of Thailand (Khon Kaen) and I saw a man praying in front of the spirit house of the hotel. I talked to him and apparently he is doing that every morning and every evening.
What a challenge for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to praise God every morning and every evening and to pray and read the Bible.
